BARBARELA. On the day of Saint Barbara, that is, on the 4th of December, the Doge randomly drew from an urn the names of thirty patricians aged between the ages of twenty and twenty-five in order to be admitted to the Great Council. Therefore, vegnir a la barbarela, meant, being qualified to enter with a vote in the Maggior Consiglio before the legal age of twenty-five years of age.

Original Italian text

BARBARELA.
