Pepin the Short (c. 714–768) was King of the Franks from 751 until his death in 768. He was the father and predecessor of Charlemagne.
The events around the demise of the Exarchate of Ravenna only involved the Venetians marginally. It is nevertheless important to the history of Venice.
The “Historia Langobardorum” is the oldest chronicle relevant to the history of Venice. It probably dates to the 780s or 790s.
