The Arti che vanno per via nella città di Venezia (1753, 1770, 1785, etc.), by Gaetano Zompini (1700–1778), contains sixty engravings of common, mostly poor people, peddling their trades on the streets of Venice in the mid-1700s.

Spazzo i camini, e svodo a ora scura Le fosse; e me sfadigo zorno e notte Per render stà città netta, e segura.
Translation
I sweep the chimneys, and in the dark hours I clear
The cesspits; and I work hard day and night
To make this City clean, and safe.
Notes
The fosse were the cesspits, built under the houses or under the courtyards, for collecting sewage — Boerio (1829), entry FOSSA.
The svodafosse were the people who emptied and cleaned these cesspits at night — ibid., entry SVODAFOSSE.
