The game of Calcio — a rugby-like game — was usually played in the Bersaglio di Sant’Alvise during Lent. Only noblemen could play calcio there.

Translation
The Game of Calcio (kick) which is played in the Shooting Ground1 at Sant’Alvise during Lent, in which no-one plays if not the Gentlemen.

The no longer existing Bersaglio di Sant’Alvise, not far from the Campo Sant’Alvise in Cannaregio.

The scene is of a game of calcio, a rugby-like game, popular with the students in Padua, and between noblemen in Venice.
