The Liber Pontificalis — the Book of the Popes — contains short biographies of the early popes of Rome. Compilation of the Liber Pontificalis started in the mid-500s, and it was updated until the 1500s. The main critical edition is Duchesne (1886), and a large part of the biographies are available online.
